Deep Tissue Massage occurs when the therapist applies firm pressure to the client’s muscles using hands, fingertips, knuckles, elbows and even forearms stimulating muscles and body tissues. It is especially helpful for chronically tense areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness and sore shoulders. The movement is slow and deep pressure is concentrated on areas of tension and pain.
How deep tissue works
Bands of fibrous tissue may stick together as a result of inflammation. Massage helps loosen and separate them.
Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement and inflammation. Deep tissue works by breaking adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement, with deep direct pressure/ friction across the grain of muscle.
- Increase flexibility of joints
- Improve muscle tone
- Increase energy levels
- Stimulated lymphatic system
- Lowered blood pressure
